The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the signing of the following players, all for 2 years with the exception of Bobby Keppel: RP Bobby Keppel, 1B Joe Stroud, 3B James Keay, RF Trey Parkinson, LF Gabe Gross, SS Elvis Andruws, and SS JJ Hardy.
Update, August 4th 1:55pm: jbrowning2 has informed me it was actually David Gross the Brewers have signed, not Gabe like originally reported..
Wow, I never thought that anyone would want these players (Keay, Gross, Parkinson). For some reason, the Brew Crew is loading up on ex-Marlins. Maybe then Milwaukee can follow this veteran leadership towards a traditional Marlin-style 55-win season.
All kidding aside, Keay is a nice player ni some ways. If all goes well, he can give you a .400 OBP and an 80 defense at second, a little better at third. He has a 91 contact against lefties, which you won’t find much of for league minimum.
Gross is a good defensive outfield corner who also is a very good contact man against lefties. This year, he played too much and was exposed. But off the bench, as a pinch hitter, he is definitely worth league minimum.
Trey Parkinson is a 4A corner outfielder. Even this year, I couldn’t find a use for him.
