2029 Top 25 Prospects

Please enjoy the first release of the Top 25 Prospects article series. This Top 25 Prospects is brought to you by Paul (Toronto General Manager) and James (Seattle General Manager).

top25 2029 Top 25 Prospects

1 – C – Eric Malone – TOR – Max Rating = 98/98, .297 BA with a .921 OPS

Malone was a lower pick in the draft, yet he is a star. The White Sox dealt him to Toronto in 2023, I’m sure they regret that. Malone will be one of if not the best catchers in the game for a very long time.

2 – SS – Mike Kelso – TOR – Max Rating = 98/98, .292 BA with a .890 OPS

Kelso seems set to make his starting debut with the Toronto Blue Jays this season. His speed is very impressive, yet his bat is good for a .300 batting average and 20+ home runs a season. The Blue Jays take 1-2 in this Top Prospect list, watch out world.

3 – 3B – Marco Escanuelas – CHC – Max Rating = 96/96, .275 BA with a .867 OPS

Esanuelas is a very solid 3rd baseman with great power. Escanuelas could come up to the majors today and hit at least 20 home runs. His defense is also very good, expect a few gold glove awards from Escanuelas and several all star seasons.

4 – RP – John Rizzo – BAL – Max rating = 95/95, 2.84 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP

Rizzo is the best closer of this Prospect class, and that usually doesn’t mean much. Outahere has been lacking closers as of late, now we see several great closers for the future. Rizzo will be the Orioles closer in just a matter of a few seasons. Rizzo should win some rings as long as he stays in Baltimore.

5 – RP – Derek Toole – DET – Max rating = 97/97, 3.05 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP

At the start of the 2026 draft Tigers GM MogulMonster was asked who he would pick. He said something very simple, all closers. Toole was one of the first picks he had, and Toole turned out to be better than MogulMonster could have dreamed of. Tootle will be an excellent closer on a team that appears will have the greatest pen in Outahere history.

6 – 2 – 1B – Chris Woodfork – CIN – Max Rating = 95/95, .273 BA with a .895 OPS

Chris Woodfork is a 23 year-old who hit 33 home runs in AAA last season. That home run total will be the worst of what he is capable of doing in the majors. Woodfork will lead the league in home runs for many seasons. Not surprising, Woodfork is a 1b.

7 – SP – Adam Thomas – MIN – Max rating = 96/96, 3.29 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP

Thomas was stollen from the Florida Marlins in a trade that has been questioned by many, including the Marlins General Manager. Thomas has excellent control and very good movement. Thomas currently has 4 pitches, which should be very helpful. Expect a future Twins ace.

8 – 3B – Dustin Mott – MTC – Max Rating = 95/95, .281 BA with a .886 OPS

Mott was the first pick in the 2027 MLB Draft, and he may be one of the worst first overall picks in awhile. Yet, Mott will make several all star teams and hit plenty of home runs. Mott has a weak side in defense and health, but he is pretty quick and should have a great eye.

9 – SS – Christian Cora – CHW – Max Rating = 96/96, .303 BA with a .867 OPS

Another classic example of a trade that may be a regret several seasons down the road. Cora was dealth to the powerhouse White Sox earlier in the Off Season, and Cora will not be an average player. Cora has very good defense and should hit .300 for many seasons.

10 – SP – Daniel Fraser – MIN – Max rating = 94/94, 3.55 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP

Another AL Central Player in this list. Fraser should be a very good Starting Pitcher. Fraser throws 4 pitches and has very good movement. Fraser has a weak point in health, but it seems every Twins player always has weak health.

11 – RP – Wade Driskell – DET – Max rating = 94/94, 3.25 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP

22 year old Wade Driskell (80/93) is a right-handed reliever with an excellent fastball. He made his major league debut in 2028 getting into 17 games with the Tigers and pitching 28.0 innings. His 3.21 ERA in those first 28 innings are a solid indication of his potential as a major league reliever.

12 – RP – Jim Carpenter – DET – Max Rating = 93/93, 3.33 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP

22 year old Jim Carpenter (79/91) is a right handed reliever with an excellent fastball. He made his major league debut in 2027 posting a tidy 2.55 ERA over 17.2 innings but took a step backward in 2028 with a bloated 6.04 ERA over 28.1 innings pitched. Carpenter should develop into another reliable member of the Tiger’s bullpen.

13 – RF – Miguel Clavez – CIN – Max Rating = 94/94, .278 BA with a .845 OPS

21 year old Miguel Clavez (67/84) is a left-handed right fielder who is in his second year of professional baseball. In his draft year, Clavez posted an OPS of .852 playing in A-ball and was promoted to AA in 2028 where he posted an OPS of .801. Clavez should progress nicely in the Reds system and don’t let his current peak fool you!

14 – RP – Maxim Robertson – MIL – Max rating = 93/93, 3.45 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP

22 year old Maxim Robertson (83/92) is a right handed reliever with a deadly slider. Maxim made his major league debut with the Brewers in 2028 appearing in 23 games and posting an ERA of 4.55 over 29.2 innings pitched. What was impressive was his strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.5:1 (27 K’s to 6 BB’s). This kid defiantly has closer material!

15 – 1B – Todd Narbors – HOU – Max Rating = 94/94, .250 BA with a .840 OPS

22 year old Todd Narbors (74/88) is a right-handed first baseman with tons of power and a slick glove. Narbors posted a massive .985 OPS in 38 games at AAA in only his second season of professional baseball. He has major league power and gold-glove calibre defense, a combination that should make him a huge hit in Houston.

16 – SP – Gongoro Tsukada – TOR – Max Rating = 91/91, 3.66 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP

21 year old Gongoro Tsukada (70/94) is a right-handed reliever who made his major league debut in 2028 in less than spectacular fashion. In 8.2 innings split between the Mets and Jays, Tsukada allowed 13 earned runs for a monstrous 13.50 ERA! Sources inside the Blue Jays front office, however, state that a more patient approach will be taken with Tsukada who posted a tidy 3.32 ERA over 62.1 innings in AA after posting a stellar 1.29 ERA in 14 innings a A-ball.

17 – RP – Reggie Huggler – BAL – Max Rating = 92/92, 3.55 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP

21 year old Reggie Huggler (69/91) is a right-handed reliever in the Orioles system. Drafted as a 17 year old, Huggler has spent 4 full seasons in the minors where he posted ERA’s of 2.66 and 2.94 in A-ball before posting a 3.66 ERA as a middle reliever in AA this past season.

18 – 2B – Mickey Morrison – TOR – Max Rating – 97/97, .280 BA with a .824 OPS

25 year old Mickey Morrison (91/96) is a right-handed second baseman with the Toronto Blue Jays. Morrison made his major league debut in 2028 and became an instant starter with the Jays playing 94 games and posting an OPS of .782 over his first 356 at bats. A great contact hitter with surprising power for a second basemen.

19 – SP – Toby Melenores – POR – Max Rating = 94/94, 3.88 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP

21 year old Toby Melenores (68/90) is a right-handed starter with a nasty splitter. While impressive in college, Melenores has had trouble since moving into professional baseball. In two seasons of A and AA, Melenores has yet to produce a sub 4.00 ERA, but most scouts feel that he should develop into a solid middle of the order starter with the potential to throw 180-200 innings with an ERA below 4.

20 – SP – Chris Nelson – TOR – Max Rating = 89/89, 3.84 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP

23 year old Chris Nelson (81/89) is a right-handed starter with the Blue Jays. After an impressive start to his 2028 AAA season that saw him post a tidy 2.93 ERA in 73.2 innings pitched, Nelson got the call to spot-start for the Jays. In 15 appearances with the Jays, including 6 starts, Nelson posted an impressive 2.66 ERA over his first 71.0 major league innings!

21 – LF – Joaquin Badena – NYY – Max Rating = 94/94, .282 BA with a .825 OPS

It is good to see another team up in this list. Badena has a very good eye with a great bat. Baden should have many seasons with a batting average around .300. Don’t expect Badena to win an MVP award, but make sure to remember this name.

22 – 1B – Donny Curtis – MTC – Max Rating = 95/95, .260 BA with a .830 OPS

Curtis is a former Twin, he was obtained at the start of the 2028 season. Curtis should have great power, in the high 90s. Curtis’ health is only a 69 which is a concern, but you shouldn’t be surprised to see yet another former Twin with low health.

23 – RP – Darryl Young – CCT – Max Rating = 92/92, 3.89 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP

Young is just another future closer on this list. Young’s movement should help him be a top tier closer some day down the road. His fastball currently gets up to 92 MPH, which isn’t the greatest. His health is also a problem, 63 health is not very good. His 3.89 ERA should prove he will have many good seasons as a closer though.

24 – SS – Bryan Andre – MTC – Max Rating = 93/93, .307 BA with a .762 OPS

Andre is MLB ready right now, at the start of the 2029 season. He will debut for the Cabritos this year. His defense is very very good with an 89 arm, 95 range, and 84 fielding. His 90 contact is very good and he is somewhat fast around the bases. His eye is above average. Very good short stop of the present and future.

25 – SP – Justin Cantrill – MIN – Max Rating = 93/93

Cantrill is a very talented starting pitcher the Twins obtained from Portland on June 1st 2028. His 87 control will only get better, and his 83 movement is very good. His 62 heath is yet another example of Twins poor health, but great vitals. Hey, maybe that works, you see the rings…

2026 Free Agency Starts Tonight

I’m excited…can’t wait. Looks like next season is shaping up to be a very competitive year and we have a lot of new blood in the league so FA should be interesting to say the least.

Hopefully everyone keeps their head and we don’t see any $30,000,000+ contracts…

Interview with Desperados' GM ScheckDiesel

OSR: Joining us today is ScheckDiesel, former GM of the Kansas City Royals and currently with one of the new expansion teams, the Las Vegas Desperados. Thanks for being here.
ScheckDiesel: You’re welcome.

OSR:You managed the Royals for 10 seasons, including 3 straight 100 win seasons with a World Series appearance in 2018. That has to be one of the best runs ever for a small market team. Can you tell us a little bit about why you decided to move to an expansion team?
ScheckDiesel:
My whole goal with the Royals was to make a run, which I did, and then build them back up until I felt they could contend again. If you look at the Royals system, they have a LOT of good players coming up. Brislin,Burkill, Dawson, and Oskwarek will be dangerous for the next 5 years. And that’s just the rotation! If you look at the lineup, names stand out like Scaparo, Clark, Snavely, Harris, Volkman, McCrury. It’s a team that has a LOT of potential.

OSR: I agree…but what exactly made you decide it was time to move on?
ScheckDiesel: The reason I moved on was because I wanted a team I could truly call my own. KidCavalier largely drafted the team I took to the WS and I wanted to see if I could compete as quickly as thenation is in Montreal. I also liked the idea of having a larger market to work with.

OSR: I’m sure that the NL West being a tad less difficult than the AL Central had nothing to do with it. Anyway, let’s move on to the initial draft. This was a 4 team expansion, compared to our 2 team expansion previously…so it was probably a bit more competitive of a draft. How do you feel you drafted compared to the other teams involved?
ScheckDiesel: Well, for the short term, I think Vancouver did the best out of anyone. However, my view towards the draft was getting the best pitching available, and then grabbing prospects I liked. This offseason I flipped first and second pick Jamie Torresola and John Watson for 2 solid spects and 2 2nd round picks. My 3rd pick Joe Trotter has great potential, and I just flipped Glenn Weaver for two amazing spects in Luis Chapa and Mike Neale, who I have loved since he was drafted.

OSR: I notice you qualified your statement on Vancouver with “for the short term”–overall, both short term and long, out of the 4 teams, how would you rate your draft? Simple answer, first through fourth.
ScheckDiesel: Wow, bringing out the tough questions. I feel like it is hard to really rank 1-4 right now, because we are only in the 2nd year of the expansion teams. If I HAD to rank the teams I would say Las Vegas, Vancouver, Monterrey, San Juan. I put myself because I feel like I have the best chances for the future with my farm system, Vancouver 2nd because he won the AL West, and Monterrey and San Juan I would tie because both of them have a decent farm, but the ML teams are struggling right now

OSR: Let’s move on to your current team…you have a couple of star players with big contracts. 3B Kevin Ilderton who you signed to a 4 year, $56 million deal, and RF Carlo Maderros who was signed by SFG this last off season for a 4 year, $64 million deal. How do these guys fit into your plans–are they part of your future or just potential trade bait?
ScheckDiesel: As of right now, they are part of my future, when you can have those two guys in the middle of your lineup, you know you are going to score runs. However, if the right deal comes along with some close to ML-ready spects, I will be willing to deal them. As of right now, the NL West should start loading up, because it looks like 2028 is the year that I feel I can make a run at the division, which is also the year that Maderros and Ilderton’s contracts are up

OSR: Onto your pitching, you definitely have some diamonds in the rough. Ian Vaughn and Matt Constantine have both been solid in the rotation, and Araki Yamamoto, a former top Japanese IFA is having the best season of his MLB career at 39 years old. Also of note is your closer, Phil Speirs, who you drafted as the 47th overall pick in the expansion draft. What’s the key to your ability to scout these underrated pitchers?
ScheckDiesel: Performance Enhancing Drugs.
OSR: : We legalized those in 2018 though, so drugged up players are the norm. icon wink Interview with Desperados GM ScheckDiesel
ScheckDiesel: LOL. In all seriousness, Ian Vaughn was a guy that I loved with the high control/movement numbers, and he has always been decent. Yamamoto was more of a shot in the dark, evidenced by his 1yr 600k contract. Constatine was a decent SP with an arb contract, and I felt a move to the NL would help him. Speirs is an 81 overall closer who performs way above that. My “scouts” think he is a clinch for 30+ saves a year. Overall, I love my high control/movement pitchers, especially in the hitters park that I have.

OSR: Any big names in your farm system we should expect to see in future All-Star Games? Scouts have always raved about SP Joe Trotter, but he’s already 27 years old and hasn’t hit the majors yet.
ScheckDiesel: Trotter could have a few years where he impacts, but he won’t be in the league very long. I feel that SS Mike Neale and C Luis Chapa have a very good chance to be an all-star. In the long term, I really like the potential of OF Bobby Clements and OF Gregory Lee. Those two could become my new Ilderton and Maderros when all is said and done.

OSR: Okay…now onto the future of the franchise. When do we expect to see a division title from the Desperados? Or even a championship? I heard you mention something about 2028 earlier in the interview…
ScheckDiesel: I feel like 2028 is definitely could be a cornerstone year for us. Luis Chapa, Marc Downes, Scott Seth, Mike Neale, Carlo Villegas all will be peaking…I will still have Kevin Ilderton and Carlos Maderros, and oh, Bryan Heseltine will be peaking in CF as well. My pitching staff could be suspect, but there is always FA. I can always count on a diamond in the rough, finding that low 80′s SP who will perform like a 90, a so-called “Sanji Cheater Pitcher”.

OSR: Let’s wrap it up with the 60 second drill. Who do we see in the WS this season, and who wins?
ScheckDiesel: Montreal vs Baltimore, and Montreal finally gets over the hump.

OSR: The OSR is picking Minnesota, so we’ll disagree there. Favorite player in Outahere not on your team?
ScheckDiesel: [Minnesota SP] Josh Gartner.

OSR: Great pick! Teams to watch out for 5 seasons from now?
ScheckDiesel: The Chicago White Sox and the Las Vegas Desperados,

OSR: Okay, one last question, who’s your biggest rival in Outahere? Team, GM, other league, whatever. Which team do you just really want to beat?
ScheckDiesel: Wow, tough question, back in the day, cfeedback (wink), now, thenation.
OSR: I’ve heard about that first guy. No one can beat cfeedback it seemed.
ScheckDiesel: Except the Royals between ’17-’19.

OSR: Thanks for being on the show, and good luck with the remainder of this season!
ScheckDiesel: Thanks, and also the Desperados are announcing free Topperstix night at Mandalay Bay Park, free Topperstix for all in attendance!

Interview with Twins' GM SankTheTank

OSR: In the return of out interview series, the Minnesota GM SankTheTank stopped by our offices today to talk to us a little bit about the Twins, who currently have the best record in baseball at 77-22. Thanks for joining us.
SankTheTank: Any time.

OSR: Well, obviously you’re having one of the best seasons in franchise history, and at 21 games up in the AL Central, a virtual lock to win the division. Any surprises this season on how your team has performed?
SankTheTank: Not really about the way we’re performing, but I’m definitely surprised at the way Detroit came out of the gate in April and struggled to put themselves in this hole. A lot of our guys are performing at the level they should be and it’s allowed us to deal with the “growing pains” of younger players like Shawn Leeburn and Lequentin Harris. Initially, I was concerned about them being in the line up and potentially costing us the division as they grew up, however I’m plesantly surprised that everybody else is able to pick up the slack. So that’s the one small surprise that I’ve had this season.
OSR: Interesting…and even given those growing pains, you still have the top offense in the majors at 6.15 RS/G. Very impressive!

OSR: Let’s talk about a few trades you made this season. RP Jared Helmuth, who was very solid in his 2+ seasons in Minnesota, was traded to Boston for a 3rd round draft pick. What was the thinking behind this deal?
SankTheTank: It wasn’t anything with Helmuth, he’s a great pitcher who got the job done and made everybody’s job easier. He essientially eliminated an inning from the game and I know the fans loved him because he was striking out close to eleven batters per nine. However, it came down to us being in debt and not being able to afford him. We have the largest payroll in the league [Editor's note: Now currently 3rd in the league at 160.4M] but don’t make enough money to cover that, so we had to make some moves and Helmuth unfortunatley was making a lot of money. We left like Matt Hawkers could pick up the slack as he’s been pitching incredibly this season.

OSR: The other major trade you made this season was sending 2B Kent Jeeves to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for OF Peter Fortner, in a rare straight exchange of two young top prospects. Rumor has it that the Twins had concerns about Jeeves staying healthy, but Fortner has his own problems in that area as well. How did this trade come to be, and what does it mean for the future of Minnesota?
SankTheTank: We just didn’t have any room for Kent Jeeves. We discussed it constantly and I was looking for any way to fit Jeeves in somewhere. Unfortunatley, there just wasn’t a spot for him going forward and Chicago was open to trading Fortner for him straight up. I liked the deal because Fortner fills a need at right field and has the potential to be one of the game’s best hitters.

OSR: One last trade related question. Minnesota is said to be shopping RF Raymond Tyler, who is having perhaps the best season of his career since his breakout season at age 22, which was all the way back in 2014. Can you tell us anything about the reasons behind looking to move him?
SankTheTank: He’s a great hitter and we love him on our team. A lot of people critisized me for trading a great prospect in Ed Radin for him but I feel like it’s finally paying off. Unfortunatley, next year Seattle will be finished paying for his salary and it’ll be completely on us to write his check. We most likely will not have the money to do that while taking care of Chanthar Thomas, Jeff Ratcliffe, and Josh Gartner at the end of 2026.

OSR: Let’s move on and talk a little about the state of your farm system. Minnesota has mostly been a seller of draft picks over the last few seasons, leaving the cupboard somewhat bare. Any plans to address that or have you entered a “go for broke phase” and just focusing on bringing home a title?
SankTheTank: Yeah, I feel like we needed the cash more than we needed the draft picks. I couldn’t pass up Boston’s offer of $19,000,000 which will greatly help us this offsesaon when we’re paying for our arbitration elgible players. There won’t be any of this for the 2026 draft, we understand that our farm system – especially our pitching specifically – is a little on the weaker side. While we have guys that we’re hoping will be productive major leaguers like Lucas Chambers and Ron Martin, we’re lacking in the starting pitching department and it’s essiential that we get somebody if we want to compete in the future. Josh Gartner and Albert Everard unfortunately won’t be around for ever and we’ll hopefully be able to draft their replacements next June.

OSR: Okay, let’s wrap it up with our 60 second drill (short, quick answers). Name your two favorite players in Outahere, at least one not currently a member of the Twins.
SankTheTank: [Boston 3B] Edward Harder and [Minnesota SP] Nagafusa Satoya.

OSR: Biggest rival in Outahere, whether on a personal or team basis?
SankTheTank: The Tigers definitely! Both a personal and team basis, a huge division rival, and he took advantage of my Mogul virginity by stealing Sam Harrell!

OSR: World Series match up this season? And who wins? In how many games?
SankTheTank: Minnesota in five against Montreal!

OSR: Twins with the best chance of winning the MVP, Cy Young, or ROY this season?
SankTheTank: MVP – Raymond Tyler. Cy Young – Edgar Maldovado. Rookie of the Year – Lequentin Harris.

OSR: Okay, I think that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us and good luck in October!
SankTheTank: Yup, no problem. thanks!

Thoughts on FA Comp

I’m sure some of our newer (and perhaps older!) owners are a little confused on how our FA Comp system works. I thought I’d take the time to answer any questions and explain bits and pieces.

FA Comp is based on numerous factors. The primary factor is still a player’s overall rating, which is what the old comp system was entirely based on. This is still the single largest determination of what comp a player is worth. Next, we look at performance (playing time is a factor in this as well) over the last two seasons, with the current season being weighted higher than the previous. For hitters, position is also taken into consideration, with certain positions being more valuable offensively (ie a SS with a .900 OPS is more valuable than a 1B with the same OPS) than others. Defense is only looked at as part of a player’s overall rating, due to the lack of defensive metrics in Mogul.  Finally, we look at age as well. 29 years old is considered the median age and for each year younger or older than that a player receives a (small) bonus or penalty.

Under the old system, overalls for hitters and pitchers were considered to be valued the same. Changes in the way the sim engine works and our free agency market shows us that in general, pitchers are worth more than hitters for the same overall, so the FA calculations take this into account. The “default” B comp for pitchers is considered to be 87-89 overall, and A comp is 90+. For hitters, B is 89-91 overall and 92+ for A. The formula looks at the total number of players with these overalls (MLB playing time only) and calculates how many comp eligible players there would be for each grouping under the old system. The net result is the total number of potential comp players is the same, but the rankings are different based on the factors listed above.

We’ve had to make a few adjustments along the way. Originally, RPs were severely underrated, and that has mostly been corrected. Also, until this season, hitters with very few ABs (such as 150 or less) were ranked too highly. I think we’ve got it mostly fine tuned now but we’re always open to suggestions if you find a player you think is ranked incorrectly.

Here’s a look at some of the biggest gains/losses in ranking (as of July 31st, 2025) with the new system:

Biggest Pitching Gains
SP Brian Linsday (MIL) 81/95 – A comp
RP Humberto Martinez (FLA) 82/82 – A comp
SP Ramon Labala (SDP) 81/81 – B comp
SP Scott Dinning (VAN) 82/82 – B comp

Biggest Pitching Losses
SP Darrell Brislin (KCR) 91/98 – no comp
SP Joey Decker (HOU) 91/97 – no comp
SP Brandon White (HOU) 94/94 – B comp
SP Rohan Leger (MIL) 92/92 – B comp

Biggest Hitting Gains

RF Ben Ralls (SFG) 88/88 – A comp
C Glenn Weaver (OAK) 88/88 – A comp
LF Larry Guggenheim (NYM) 84/84 – B comp
C Salvatore Calderon (HOU) 85/93 – B comp

Biggest Hitting Losses
3B Rey Lucena (COL) 93/100 – no comp
1B Shane Clark (KCR) 94/100 – no comp
1B Mark Luba (VAN) 95/95 – B comp
LF Warren Penner (OAK) 96/96 – B comp

Baltimore Orioles win World Series

Congratulations to the Baltimore Orioles on defeating the NL Champion Montreal Expos in the World Series in a seven game series.  It was Baltimore’s 5th championship and the first time that Montreal has made the World Series in its seven year history.

With that, we march onward to the free agency period where we ALMOST had our second 40 million dollar pitcher. Troy Greer was signed to a 2 year, 39 million dollar deal by the Houston Astros.  Do I think it’s worth it? No.  However, at least it’s only two seasons.  With that being said, Wayne is definitely a lot better than Greer, who is a year older and a lefty.  All in all, like I say every year, free agency just isn’t worth it for pitchers. You want to find a nice steal with some good vitals who’s going to give you a 3.5 ERA out of your pen or rotation, go for it.  But other than that, you’re getting yourself into a long term commitment like Wayne, or Greer’s first contract, or Woolhouse, that down the line just isn’t going to pay off.
